The addition of six toll roads in the city have stirred varying opinions on whether it can reduce traffic density in Jakarta.

The six new toll road projects include Kampung Melayu-Kemayoran (9.6 km), Semanan-Sunter (20.2 km), Kampung Melayu-Duripulo (12.7 km), Sunter-Pulogebang (9.4 km), Pasar Minggu-Casablanca (9.2 km), and Ulujami- Tanah Abang (8.7 km).

The construction of six new toll roads was seen positively by almost 60% of respondents in the Kompas poll at the end of December. However, around 36% of respondents expressed a different opinion, one that states the addition of new toll roads will compound traffic burdens due to the increasing movement of cars into the capital. New roads have the potential to trigger an increase in private vehicles and in turn worsen air pollution and public health.

Kompas Research and Development conducted a telephone opinion survey on 21-22 December 2019. A total of 478 respondents that resided in the Jakarta Metropolitan area were randomly selected using the systematic sampling method of the latest telephone book. The number of respondents in each region is determined proportionally.

Using this method, at a 95 %confidence level, research sampling plus a minimum of 4.5%. However, errors outside sampling are possible.

The results of this poll are not intended to represent the opinions of all people in the region.
